Welcome to the “Lasers in Modern Biology and Medicine” website!  We invite you to attend this symposium, sponsored by SPIE and IEEE, honoring Professor A.J. Welch and his contributions to Biomedical Optics.  The symposium will be held on the University of Texas at Austin campus from January 27-29, 2008.  Topics to be discussed at the meeting include the medical free electron laser, photothermal interactions in tissue, photoablation and plasma effects and optical properties of tissue and tissue clearing.   

Austin is located in central Texas hill country and is known as “The Live Music Capitol of the World”.  The “Around Austin” link to the left will provide you with information about Austin and surrounding areas.  The symposium provides a friendly venue for discussing current research, reconnecting with old friends in both academic and social settings and will include tours of a number of history, art, natural science and other museums.
